Directories

ACSA Annual Directory. Washington, D.C.: The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture.(REF NA2103.A732a). Lists faculty and administrative members, by school. Information provided by each school varies greatly. Expect these listings to be less than up-to-date.

American Society of Landscape Architects, Members Handbook. Washington, D.C.: The Society, 1993. (SB469.A512)

Architectural Design Collaborators 3. Cambridge, MA: Perlman/Stearns, Inc. 1992. (REF NA2750.A72 v. 3). Includes architectural illustrators, modelmakers, lighting designers, fabricators, photographers, etc.

Directory, African American Architects. Bradford Grant and Dennis Mann. Cincinnati: Center for the Study of the Practice of Architecture, University of Cincinnati, 1995. (NA53.D57)

Directory of AIA Firms in Massachusetts. Boston: Boston Society of Architects, 1997. (NA54.M4.D5). Same listings as in ProFile, but in one alphabetical list. Not updated as often as ProFile.

Directory of Greater Boston Design and Construction Professionals 1986. Boston: Corey and Company, 1986. (NA55.B6.D5). A marketing effort, only large, successful firms were willing to pay for space in this directory. Very good information on selected firms, now a bit out of date. Use index; not arranged alphbetically.

Directory of Minority and Women-Owned Firms, Engineering/Architectural. Washington, D.C.: American Consulting Engineers Council, 1986. (TA12.D5)

ENR Directory of Contractors. New York: McGraw-Hill, 1993. (TA12.E326). Regionally divided four-volume set. Large construction firms receive two-page spreads; the rest are listed in back. Includes "type of work" index, tables for the top 400 contractors, and the top 600 specialty contractors.

ENR Directory of Design Firms. New York: McGraw-Hill, 1992. (REF TA174 .E11). Primarily listings of engineering and A/E firms. Very good double-page entries for largest firms, address information of hundreds more in separate list. Includes "type of work" index, international section, and tables for the top 500 design firms in the U.S. and the top 200 firms worldwide.

The Greenline Guide to Residential Architects. New York: Greenline, 1990.(REF NA53 .G7 1990). Another marketing directory with highly successful firms paying for picture displays. Includes a handy list of residential architects, by state, at the back.

Guide to Architecture Schools. Washington, D.C.: Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, 2003. (REF NA2103 .A73). Descriptions and directory-type information for all schools, separate listing of international schools (addresses only). Issued about every 3-4 years.

International Directory of Building Research, Information, and Development Organizations. Rotterdam: International Council for Building Research, Studies, and Documentation, 1986. (REF TH12 .I58 1986)

ProFile, The Sourcebook of U. S. Architectural Design Firms. American Institute of Architects. Annual in print. (NA53 .P76 2004). Firms listed by state/city. Separate listings of principals, minority and women-owned firms, and members of "professional interest areas." Unfortunately, no longer includes the separate list of AIA members. Many U.S. architects are not AIA members and do not show up in ProFile.

Society of Architectural Historians. Membership Directory. Philadelphia: The Society, 2003/4. (REF NA11.S665)

Rosters

Each state's registry (and sometimes the regional AIA chapter) publishes a list of its registered architects. Rotch collects these rosters very selectively. Many states sell their lists at a cost per name. Since many architects register to do work in states in which they do not live, these lists may be very long and costly and have relatively few residents. Therefore, many of the rosters are not purchased. Some state periodicals, such as Texas Architect, publish their lists of architects in an annual issue. Guides to these "special issues" are filed with the rosters in the Reference collection. (REF NA54)

Rosters for foreign countries are also collected selectively. Many of these are nearly impossible to acquire and, in a few cases, the country declares this information "private." Substantive directories are fully cataloged, others are simply filed. Search Barton under subject: Architects - "country"- Directories, or look under REF NA60.
